Why vendor ownership matters more than a list of supplier names

A supplier record needs a person who can answer the next commercial question.

Give ownership a practical meaning

The owner should know why the supplier is used, which team depends on it and where the contract is stored. Approval authority can be separate; make both responsibilities explicit.

Keep handovers usable

Capture renewal dates, contact context and affected services before responsibility changes. Restrict credentials to the people who need them instead of including passwords in general handover notes.

Review the relationships

Inspect suppliers connected to several services and flag records with no owner. A small review list is easier to act on than a long list of names with no next step.

Put it into practice
